Latest Updates from Our Project:

Mage Hand Press Starter Pack
over 5 years ago – Wed, Sep 19, 2018 at 01:31:06 AM

It's about time we send out the $5 and $10 backer rewards: the Wallpaper Pack and the Mage Hand Press Starter Pack. You should see a notification email from BackerKit shortly.

The wallpaper pack is pretty self-explanatory: five desktop and four mobile wallpapers in a collection of different sizes, which should fit most monitors and phone screens.

However, we should talk about what's in the MHP Starter Pack. Right now, it includes the following PDFs:

  • Channeler
  • Complete Alchemist
  • Complete Craftsman
  • Complete Gunslinger
  • Complete Warmage
  • Complete Witch
  • Shugenja
  • And Warden

These are all of our base classes which will feature archetypes in Dark Matter. The 'Complete' variations have been subsequently expanded with more archetypes and more rules, so there's great content in there, even if you're not interested in playing the classes themselves.

There's a small attached 'but' to this release of the Starter Pack. Right now, we're reworking and improving the Alchemist and Craftsman classes on our Patreon. When those classes are completely finished, we'll re-release the MHP Starter Pack with the reworked classes, so you have the most up-to-date versions.

Surveys!
over 5 years ago – Thu, Sep 13, 2018 at 01:00:52 AM

BackerKit surveys should be in your inbox! Please respond to it so I can get onto sending out the early rewards and so I can prepare for the later rewards. Also, if you're interested in picking up an additional copy of the book (or a PDF, if you didn't manage to get one), consider grabbing one as an add-on.

I hope to have some tangible progress to show you all on the book in the next couple weeks. Since the Kickstarter has wrapped, I've been editing and slightly expanding most of the finished chapters (adding a bit more to gear, magic items, ships, and feats), and I've started the first pass for the PDFs on the Monsters chapter and The 'Verse chapter (the primary lore chapter.)

Stay tuned!

BackerKit Surveys Soon
over 5 years ago – Fri, Sep 07, 2018 at 11:03:02 PM

Hey all,

A quick reminder that you can expect to see a survey from BackerKit in about a week. In fact, some of you will see a survey even sooner! Please respond to these as soon as you get them so we can get your information organized and ready for the first round of downloads (the wallpaper pack and the MHP Starter Pack).

As always, feel free to ask if you have any questions at all!

Dark Matter Preorder Store
over 5 years ago – Tue, Sep 04, 2018 at 08:29:26 PM

Hey all,

If you missed the Dark Matter Kickstarter, or just would like to buy another copy of the book, then you'll want to check out the Preorder Store!

Check it out!

While I've got you, here’s a small update on things: We're going to be sending out BackerKit surveys in about two weeks (you'll get another reminder about a week from now reminding you that they're coming). When those show up in your inbox, you'll be able to set up your mailing address, customize your pledge a little, and purchase add-ons (like additional copies) from the preorder store.

In the meantime, we're going to keep plugging away at the book!
Take care, Mike from Mage Hand Press

Thank You! Campaign Ends and Stretch Goal Unlocked: Story Chapter Introductions
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 25, 2018 at 11:44:42 PM

Thank you!

Your support has made this campaign an unqualified success, far beyond our wildest expectations. We wrapped up the campaign with a whopping:

$40,815!

We're 163% funded! So, let's take a moment to do a victory dance and celebrate. Not only is this project fully-funded, we reached every one of our stretch goals! We even unlocked a couple of Backer Achievements, which will slot neatly into the book.

Thank you again for making this possible.

Quick reminder that if you missed the campaign, you'll be able to place preorders in about two weeks on BackerKit! (More updates as that comes up.)

A Look Forward

Now that the victory-dancing is out of the way, we should zero-in on what's coming up next and check in on the grand schedule.  First thing's first, we're finishing up the two remaining chapters of the book to get to the Digital Beta.

The first chapter, The 'Verse, has gotten an entire revision and a bunch of art throughout the course of the Kickstarter, but it's still waiting on a few art assets before being entirely completed. While we were waiting on art for the 'Verse, we decided to focus in our writing efforts on the Monsters chapter, which has now been completely drafted. We're starting on producing the actual PDF for Monsters in the next few days.

If you're checking in on the original schedule, you'll already notice some discrepancies, namely that the two above chapters should be nearly done. This delay is entirely my fault: the day-to-day activity of running the Kickstarter took far more time than I anticipated, leaving very little time to develop the book. Thankfully, the October/November slush period still covers these delays.

Additionally, as mentioned in the Story Chapter Introductions stretch goal, unlocking this goal also comes with a two month delay on the project, as our artists get cracking on those full-page illustrations.

In order to help alleviate artistic delays, we've brought a third (super talented!) artist on board to speed things along. It's possible we might even look for a fourth in the coming days.

So, here's the predicted schedule, as time of writing:

December 15th: Dark Matter Beta 1 Completed and Delivered

     January/February: Slush Period and Playtesting

     March 15th: Print Copy Completed

     April 15th: Print Run Begins

     July 15th: Shipping Begins

There's a lot of slush built into this schedule so that we can absorb future delays and still release on time. I'll keep everyone posted as we make progress.

On behalf of all the writers and artists in Mage Hand Press, thank you again for supporting us and bringing this amazing project to life.
